The FPS Endowment: Creating a Legacy in Perpetuity
Want to make an impact that lasts forever? Consider making a gift to the FPS endowment and create your own family’s legacy helping future families experience the gift of respite. In making a gift to an endowment, your principal investment is invested and interest from your investment is compounded and distributed according to your wishes to support the git of respite for future generations.
The FPS endowment is critical to the long-term sustainability of the organization and ensures cancer respite is always part of cancer care. Therefore, FPS is actively building it’s endowment resources today to support both the operations and programming of the nation’s first of its kind cancer respite center, Pete’s Dream. With current endowment resources of approximately $5M, and construction underway on Pete’s Dream, FPS has a goal of increasing this endowment to $10M over the next four years.
Create Named Family Fund
While a gift of any size can be made to the endowment, FPS have established two named funding opportunities with an endowment threshold:
Your contribution at the $25,000 level creates a named family fund that can be earmarked for either general support of for a specific programming purpose that aligns with your giving priorities. Further, the fund can be named in honor or in memory of a loved one that has faced cancer and will become a permanent component of FPS financial reporting. Lastly, you can make additional contributions to this fund at any time during your lifetime or as part of a planned gift.
Your contribution of $100,000 will fund a family respite every year, in perpetuity, at Pete’s Dream. Alongside being part of the PFS financial reporting as a named fund, your family will be acknowledged at Pete’s Dream during the designated week you choose (perhaps a birthday or anniversary to acknowledge) and the respite family that is directly supported by your generosity. You will hear directly from the respite recipients supported by your generosity.
Aligning your Endowment Gift to your Philanthropic Priorities
Every Named Memorial Fund can be directed to the area of care that means the most to your family. Examples of restricted endowment gifts include the following areas:

Funding your Endowment Gift
An immediate gift to the endowment puts your support to work today, helping us reach this milestone while we build. A planned gift, made as part of your estate plan, extends that same support into the future. For those that make a planned gift, you automatically become a member of the FPS Legacy of Hope Society.
Either path can let you support For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation at the highest level you’ve ever imagined, while still meeting your own financial and estate planning goals. Every gift, no matter the size, forever links your life story to hope and healing for adult cancer patients and the people who love them.
Examples of immediate endowment funding strategies include:
- Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA
- Required Minimum Distribution donation
- Donating appreciated stock and other capital assets
- Starting a Charitable Gift Annuity
- Creating a Charitable Lead Trust
Examples of future endowment funding strategies include:
- Naming FPS in your will with a percentage or of your remaining estate or for a specific gift amount
- Naming FPS as a beneficiary of your DAF account upon your passing (you can also make grants from your DAF during your lifetime)
- Naming FPS as beneficiary of your Retirement Accounts, especially your IRA and other retirement accounts including 401(k) and 403(b) assets, that avoids double taxation
- Setting up a Charitable Remainder Trust
- Making FPS a beneficiary of your Life Insurance Policy
